October Beacon Bards Readers: Braden & Broach

This month Beacon Bards is lucky to have Allen Braden and Ronda Broach as our featured readers. Just in case you haven't heard about it yet, Beacon Bards is a new monthly poetry series I am hosting at The Station, a wonderful drinking establishment in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle. Readings take place on the second Wednesday of each month, beginning at 7 pm. This month's reading is on Wednesday, October 10.  The Station is a cozy, downhome kind of place, so plan on arriving early to make sure you get a seat. The reading is free, and children are more than welcome.

Allen Braden is the author of A Wreath of Down and Drops of Blood (University of Georgia) and Elegy in the Passive Voice (University of Alaska/Fairbanks), winner of the Midnight Sun Chapbook Contest.  His poems are forthcoming in the North American Review, Conversations Across Borders and The Bedford Introduction to Literature.

Ronda Broach is the author of Shedding Our Skins, (2008), and Some Other Eden, (2005). Nominated seven times for the Pushcart, recipient of a 2007 Artist Trust GAP Grant, finalist for the May Swenson Poetry Book Award, Ronda is currently Poetry Editor for the literary journal, Crab Creek Review. Ronda has received degrees in both Creative Writing and Photography from the University of Washington. When she isn't teaching Pilates, Silver Sneakers, or weight-training, she spends her time documenting the secret lives of flowers, preserving wildlife, and snapping poets and local rock bands in their natural habitats.

After the featured readers finish up, the readers will talk briefly about what keeps them writing, and then the stage will open up for a brief open mic. This is going to be a great evening of poetry. I hope to see you there.
